NORTHERN SECTION
Bradford City progressed to the northern section semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a 6-5 penalty shoot-out win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Chris Mitchell scored the decisive spot-kick after Erik Tonne missed for the Blades and the tie had finished 1-1 in normal time.
Preston North End goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann saved three penalties in a shoot-out against Rochdale to send Phil Brown's men into Saturday`s draw.
The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and the visitors clinched it as Stuckmann saved spot-kicks from Andrew Tutte, Ashley Grimes and Brian Barry-Murphy.
Veteran striker Shefki Kuqi bagged a double as Oldham Athletic beat Crewe Alexandra 3-1 in the northern section's other quarter-final on Tuesday, with Chesterfield facing Tranmere on Wednesday.
SOUTHERN SECTION
Swindon Town goalkeeper Phil Smith was the matchwinner as he saved three penalties to clinch a 3-1 shoot-out victory over AFC Wimbledon.
Smith saved from Lee Minshull, Ricky Wellard and Chris Bush to clinch victory for Paolo Di Canio`s side after the tie had finished 1-1 following 90 minutes.
Mike Grella smashed four goals as Brentford completed an emphatic 6-0 rout of Bournemouth. Grella's strikes along with goals from Sam Saunders and Shaleum Logan took the Bees a game nearer a return to Wembley, where they lost in last year's final to Carlisle United.
Barnet caused a shock as they beat Cheltenham Town 2-0 at Whaddon Road with goals from Charlie Taylor and Mark Marshall.
Meanwhile, Ryan Hall scored the only goal as 10-man Southend United beat Oxford United in a tempestuous game which also saw the U's have two players sent off.
