Experienced Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Steve Phillips is hoping to hit top gear in 2013 - with the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Wembley and Paris his dream destinations.
The 34-year-old is part of the Crewe squad which has reached the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Semi-Final and are preparing for a home tie against Bradford City on Tuesday January 15th.
But, as well as his football commitments, Phillips is also preparing for a hectic year of fundraising.
A series of events will be held, culminating in a London to Paris bike ride in June as he raises funds for the Stoke-based Caudwell Children's Charity and Leukaemia research.
"I have friends who have been helped by both charities so we can raise a good amount of money," said Phillips.
"Everyone has been so generous and really brought into the idea - in the football club, in and around Crewe itself, and throughout football.
"It's a big challenge. I cycle quite a bit anyway and usually do somewhere between 60 and 100 miles a week.
"I think I will finish it, although I'm not too sure what my physical condition will be by the end of it - but it's all for good causes."
But before his mind turns to the marathon bike journey, Phillips will be hoping to continue his love affair with the Johnstone's Paint Trophy having been a previous winner of the competition with Bristol City and been to the final with Bristol Rovers.
"It's a fantastic competition which I've got a lot of happy memories of," he said.
"We've had a good run so far and hopefully it will continue. We now we've got a really tough game against Bradford who have done ever so well this season but we are looking forward to it.
"We had a great day at Wembley in the League 2 play-off final last May and it would be fantastic to get back there again.
"But we know there is a long way to go before we can think of that."
