Northern Section First Round

Crewe Alexandra v Accrington Stanley

Accrington Stanley have made a poor start to their Sky Bet League 2 season and face a tough test against Trophy holders Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday.

James Beattie's men have one point from their first five games and visit a Crewe side who triumphed 2-0 in the Wembley Final against Southend United last season.

The Railwaymen come into the game in a rough patch of form having lost their last two matches without scoring a goal.

Hartlepool United v Bradford City

Hartlepool United have struggled to get going in League 2 and they come up against Bradford City.

Pools remain without a victory and picked up just their second point of the campaign last Saturday, drawing 0-0 with Torquay United.

Bradford were promoted from League 2 last term and have two wins, two draws and a solitary loss in their opening five League 1 fixtures. They are known for their recent success in cup competitions having reached last season's Capital One Cup Final.

Notts County v Burton Albion

Notts County remain without a victory league this term and they host in-form Burton Albion.

The Magpies have lost four of their five league games, including the last two 1-0, although they did beat Fleetwood Town in the Capital One Cup. They welcome a Brewers team who remain unbeaten in League 2.

Gary Rowett's men have drawn two and won three, including their most recent fixture at Accrington Stanley.

Port Vale v Bury

Bury and Port Vale swapped divisions last season and on Tuesday they clash at Vale Park.

The Valiants were promoted to League 1 but have notched just one victory so far. The Shakers started slowly but are unbeaten in their last three League 2 outings.

The two clubs have crossed paths on several occasions and it's Bury who hold the upper hand with 29 wins, compared to Port Vale's 24.

Scunthorpe United v Sheffield United

Scunthorpe United and Sheffield United remain without a victory since the opening day of the campaign and they meet at Glanford Park.

The League 2 Iron started with a 2-0 success against Mansfield Town and have managed three draws since, while the Blades beat Notts County on the first day in League 1 but have chalked up just a single point since.

Sheffield United remain unbeaten against Scunthorpe in their last four meetings, winning two and drawing two.

Shrewsbury Town v Oldham Athletic

Shrewsbury Town and Oldham Athletic sit side-by-side in the Sky Bet League 1 table and they go head-to-head.

Both teams have six points on the board but Oldham are the higher, in 13th, with a better goal difference.

The Shrews have lost just once but have only tabled a single victory, drawing the other three. The Latics have won two and lost three.

Tranmere Rovers v Fleetwood Town

Tranmere Rovers and Fleetwood Town will meet for the first time ever when the two sides clash at Prenton Park.

Tranmere registered their first victory of the campaign in their match last Saturday, while Fleetwood fell to their second defeat, with their other three games ending in their favour.

Rovers have a history in the Football League Trophy, winning it in the 1989/90 season. Fleetwood were knocked out on penalties to Rochdale last term, which was their first ever Trophy involvement.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Walsall

Wolverhampton Wanderers begin their Johnstone's Paint Trophy voyage at home to near-neighbours Walsall, who they haven't faced since 2003.

Wolves were Trophy winners in 1988 when they beat Burnley in the Final in front of 80,841 people, which remains a record attendance for the Final.

Kenny Jackett's men have begun the League 1 season strongly with 13 points from five matches, compared to the Saddlers' seven.

Southern Section First Round

Brentford v AFC Wimbledon

Brentford and AFC Wimbledon have begun their respective seasons positively and they come together at Griffin Park.

The Bees, three-time Trophy runners-up, remain unbeaten and have nine points from their first five matches.

Wimbledon have 10 points and come into the game having overcome Fleetwood Town 2-0 last Saturday.

Bristol City v Bristol Rovers

The stand-out tie in the First Round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy sees Bristol City and Bristol Rovers meet at Ashton Gate on Wednesday live on Sky Sports.

The city rivals last met during the 2006/07 season in the Area Finals of the Trophy and, on that occasion, the Pirates were the team to progress, winning 1-0 in the two-legged affair.

They went on to lose the Final 3-2 in extra-time to Doncaster Rovers at the Millennium Stadium, while City ended the season with promotion to the Championship.

Cheltenham Town v Plymouth Argyle

Cheltenham Town and Plymouth Argyle will meet for the second time this term on Tuesday night in the Trophy First Round.

The Pilgrims were the victors in the League 2 meeting between the two, on August 17th, when they triumphed 3-1 at Whaddon Road.

That result has contributed to the Robins' poor start to the season - they have just one win from five.

Dagenham and Redbridge v Colchester United

Dagenham and Redbridge have had a relatively slow start in Sky Bet League 2 and they host Colchester United, who have begun brightly in League 1.

The Daggers have just one victory to date and lost 3-0 to Mansfield Town last time out.

Colchester were defeated for the first time this season last weekend, against leaders Leyton Orient, after securing eight points from their opening four outings.

Exeter City v Wycombe Wanderers

There's an all-League 2 affair at St James Park where Exeter City entertain Wycombe Wanderers.

The Grecians have started the season with 10 points from five games, losing just once, while the Chairboys have seven points on the board, from two wins and a draw.

The last meeting between these sides ended level but Exeter have the historical advantage with 38 wins compared to Wycombe's 34.

Gillingham v Leyton Orient

Sky Bet League 1 leaders Leyton Orient begin their Johnstone's Paint Trophy campaign on the road at Gillingham.

The O's have opened their season with five wins from five - their best-ever start - and will have the wind in their sails going into the match at the Priestfield Stadium.

Gillingham remain without a victory, drawing their last three, and lost in the First Round of the Capital One Cup to Bristol City.

Milton Keynes Dons v Northampton Town

Near-neighbours Milton Keynes Dons and Northampton Town will come together for the second time this season at stadiummk on Tuesday.

The Dons ran out 2-1 winners at Sixfields when the clubs met in the Capital One Cup and they are unbeaten in the league.

The Cobblers have endured a poor start and have lost all but one of their matches.

Torquay United v Portsmouth

Torquay United and Portsmouth haven't met since 1999 but clash in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.

In the last meeting between the two clubs it was Pompey who were the victors and it is they who have the upper hand historically, with six wins to Torquay's two.

The Gulls currently have a point more than Portsmouth in the Sky Bet League 2 table but both teams have tasted victory just once so far and made Round 1 exits from the Capital One Cup.
