After an impressive start to their second season as a Football League club Dagenham & Redbridge are aiming to firmly cement their place in the League, says manager John Still.

Following their promotion as the 2006-07 champions of the Blue Square Premier, the Daggers spent most of last term at the lower end of the League 2 table and finished 20th.

But with a haul of 10 points from their first five League outings of the new campaign - and with 18 goals including five in two Cup ties - Still's team are riding high.

The manager says: "We've made a much better start this time, although last year we went into the season with a lot of key players injured and that certainly affected us.

"This year most of the players were fit right from the start and although our squad hasn't changed much, it seems like we have a better squad than this time last year.

"I'm pleased with how it's gone so far, especially with the goals we've got because that's shown we're a decent attacking side.

"But I'll be even more pleased if I can look at the table after another five or six games and we're still in the same position."

The Daggers were actually top of the table after four games but slipped to fifth following their first League defeat, 2-1 at Brentford last Saturday.

Now they face a run of difficult encounters, including a trip to new leaders Wycombe Wanderers next week, as they look to establish themselves at the top end of the table.

Former Peterborough United and Barnet boss Still says: "We know we've got a lot of tough games coming up, but the players are relishing the challenge.

"After being in the League for a season there are no shocks in store for them and we'll be going into all of our games without any fear.

"The players were actually a bit disappointed last season because they felt they rarely had the chance to show what they can do.

"But this time they've already done that in a number of matches and hopefully they'll carry on doing it right through the season.

"Since I've been at the club (Still joined the Daggers in January 2004) we've improved our position year on year and that's the aim again this season."
