With the season hotting up the decision to name the Powerade Players of the Month for March is going to be a tough one for Chris Kamara and the rest of the panel.
Starting in the Coca-Cola Championship David Cotterill, Robbie Blake, Michael Kightly and Sammy Clingan are the nominees after having fantastic months, which could be key to their club's successes this season.
Cotterill scored his first goal of the season for Sheffield United in the 2-1 win over Birmingham at the beginning of March. He then played in the 2-1 win at Coventry, the 2-2 draw with Blackpool and the 4-2 win against Derby before scoring in the 3-0 win against Cardiff at Ninian Park. He is hoping to make it a double for the Blades after Manager Kevin Blackwell was named the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month.
Robbie Blake scored twice in March to help Burnley pick up an impressive 13 points to stay in Play-Off places. He helped his side to wins over Blackpool and Crystal Palace before scoring in the 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest. He also featured in the 1-1 draw with Ipswich before ending the month with a goal in the 2-1 win over Plymouth which took his tally for the season to 8.
Michael Kightly was in exceptional form for Wolverhampton Wanderers helping his side keep a tight grip on the top spot as they won four out of their five league matches. He only scored one goal that coming in the 1-0 at Nottingham Forest but his service from the flanks also helped his side beat Crystal Palace, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic. He will now miss the remainder of the season after breaking a metatarsal.
Sammy Clingan completes the quartet after he helped his Norwich side pick up a much needed 10 points to help move them clear of the relegation zone. The Canaries beat Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff and Plymouth before drawing with promotion chasers Birmingham City, where Clingan scored the equaliser to cancel out Cameron Jerome's early strike. The midfielder finished the month starring in Northern Ireland's impressive 3-2 win over Poland.
In League 1 the decision will be equally as tough with three strikers and a midfielder up for the award.
Swindon striker Simon Cox has been in excellent form since the season kicked off in August, but March saw him score an impressive eight goals including seven in his last three games. He played in draws with Cheltenham Town and the MK Dons before finding the net in the 3-2 defeat at Colchester. He also featured in the 1-0 defeat at Leeds and since then he's certainly had his shooting boots on, netting twice in the 3-0 win over Southend United, twice in the 3-0 win over Hereford before going one better against Northampton, where he bagged a hat-trick in the 4-3 victory.
Midfielder Chris Whelpdale helped Peterborough United cut Leicester City's lead at the top of League 1 to just four points. He helped his side win all six games in March and scored three goals along the way. The 22-year-old scored in the 3-2 win over Orient and the 2-1 over Scunthorpe before scoring the second goal in the 2-0 win over Leicester City.
Leeds' striker Jermaine Beckford took his tally to 31 for the season with six more goals in March to help his side into the Play-Off places. After draws against Oldham and Bristol Rovers Beckford bagged a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Yeovil Town, he followed that up with the only goal in the 1-0 win over Swindon before being sent off. He returned from suspension last weekend with both goals in the 2-0 win over the MK Dons.
Scunthorpe United's Gary Hooper makes up the League 1 nominations with five goals in March to take his tally for the season to an impressive 29. The striker has settled in well since signing from Southend in the summer and scored in the 2-1 win over Stockport County, the 3-0 win over Hereford and the 2-0 win over Brighton. He then scored twice in the 3-0 win over Colchester.
Four strikers go head to head for the award in League 2, with Jack Lester, Steve Fletcher, Rueben Reid and John O'Flynn's goals valuable for very different reasons.
Chesterfield's Lester scored seven goals in March to take his tally to 22 and take Chesterfield to within touching distance of the Play-Offs. He started the month with two in two with strikes against Bury and Wycombe before not scoring in the next four matches. He then bagged braces in the 3-0 win over Rochdale and the 2-1 win over Port Vale. He ended the month with a 90th minute equaliser against Aldershot.
Steve Fletcher's return to Bournemouth in January certainly had the desired effect, as the Cherries have pulled themselves out of the League 2 relegation zone. They were unbeaten in his first five games, winning three of them and he is now back amongst the goals. The former striker partner of Jack Lester scored in the 2-0 win over Aldershot before scoring twice in the impressive 4-2 win over Bradford, helping his side pick up 13 points in March.
Reuben Reid is really making the headlines for Rotherham, scoring eight goals in March to take his tally for the season to 17. After starting the month with a goalless draw with Brentford, the youngster scored a hat-trick in the 5-1 win at Chester. He followed it up with a goal in the 2-1 win at Rochdale and a brace in the 3-0 win over Chesterfield before also scoring against Bury and Luton.
The final nominee is Barnet striker John O'Flynn who scored eight goals in March to help his side more seven points clear of the relegation zone. He scored in the 2-1 win over Rochdale, before scoring both twice in the 3-1 win over Chester City. He also netted in the 2-1 defeat at Morecambe before bouncing back with another double in the 3-2 win over Lincoln to take his tally to 17 for the season.
