Congratulations to Fleetwood Town who will be playing in The Football League next season for the first time in their history after they were promoted on Saturday without kicking a ball.
Highly rated Jamie Vardy scored twice on Friday night to see Fleetwood recover from two-down to draw 2-2 at home to Lincoln City, and in doing so he took his tally to 31 for the season so far. The stalemate extended their lead at the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier to 12 points however, at that moment in time, Wrexham had two games in hand to try and catch the Cod Army.
However a 2-2 draw of their own at home to Grimsby Town on Saturday meant automatic promotion was no longer a possibility for the Robins and Micky Mellon's side were able to crack open the champagne they had put on ice the night before.
Fleetwood have experienced five promotions in the previous eight seasons and can now prepare for their first experience of The Football League.
