Charlton Athletic remain top of npower League 1 despite failing to beat Tranmere Rovers at The Valley.

Chris Powell's side have started the season well, but fell behind to an Adam McGurk goal in the 33rd minute.

The visitors peppered the Addicks' goal in search of a second, but the home side secured a 1-1 draw with 10 minutes remaining courtesy of Johnnie Jackson's penalty.

While Charlton extended their unbeaten run to 13 league games, Sheffield Wednesday closed the gap on the leaders to three points.

Lewis Buxton, Gary Madine and Ben Marshall netted in a 3-1 victory for the Owls against Chesterfield, for whom Leon Clarke scored.

Huddersfield Town sit a point behind Gary Megson's side in third spot after stretching their unbeaten run to 37 games.

Gary Roberts broke the deadlock just as half-time approached against Stevenage before the visitors levelled through a superb Scott Laird effort.

Lee Novak netted his ninth goal of the campaign in the 76th minute to put the Terriers back in front, but Stevenage missed a golden chance to earn a point when John Mousinho blazed a 90th minute penalty over the bar.

Michael Symes' penalty earned Bournemouth a 1-1 with Rochdale after Gary Jones had given the visitors a first-half lead from the spot.

The game between Colchester United and Yeovil Town also ended 2-2, Yeovil taking the lead after just 40 seconds through Gavin Massey.

Goals from Andy Bond and Anthony Wordsworth either side of half-time gave the Us the lead, before Massey's second of the afternoon earned a share of the spoils.

Alex Nicholls goal with nine minutes remaining gave Walsall a 1-1 draw at Wycombe Wanderers, for whom Ben Strevens broke the deadlock.

ELSEWHERE IN THE DIVISION

Andy Bishop's header and Matt Oakley's own goal gave Bury a 2-0 win against Exeter City, while Brentford secured a last-gasp point at Carlisle United.

David Clarkson gave the Bees a ninth minute lead in Cumbria only for James Berrett and an own goal from Clarkson to change the game. However, with just two minutes remaining the West Londoners secured a 2-2 draw through Toumani Diagouraga.

Finally, Leyton Orient's resurgence continued as they secured a 3-2 victory at Scunthorpe United thanks to Kevin Lisbie's brace and Scott Cuthbert's header. Andy Barcham hit a brace for the home side.
