CLOSING THE GAP
Charlton saw an eight-game winning streak brought to an end by lowly Walsall in npower League 1. The Saddlers took a deserved lead when Jon Macken netted with 36 minutes on the clock against the league leaders. The visitors equalised through Yann Kermorgant's header, before Walsall had Mat Sadler sent off in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
Sheffield Wednesday closed the gap to five points as goals from David Prutton and Ryan Lowe earned the second-placed side a 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic, while fellow promotion-chasers and Steel City rivals Sheffield United produced an impressive 3-0 win over Rochdale at Bramall Lane, where Ched Evans' brace and Richard Cresswell scored the all-important goals.
CHANGING PLACES
MK Dons lie third in the table after Jabo Ibehre and Shaun Williams earned a 2-0 victory at Tranmere Rovers. The victory saw them usurp Huddersfield Town in the standings, as the Terriers fell to a second successive home defeat with Harry Arter's goal earning Bournemouth a 1-0 win at the Galpharm Stadium.
Brentford occupy the final Play-Off spot after coming off best in a frantic final 10 minutes against Hartlepool United at Griffin Park. Niall McGinn gave the Bees the lead in the 80th minute before Sam Collins levelled three minutes later.
ELSEWHERE IN THE DIVISION
Gary Alexander netted the winner in the 85th minute to help Brentford stay ahead of Carlisle United, who are level on points after James Berrett and Francois Zoko helped secure a 2-1 win at Scunthorpe United. Andy Barcham had broken the deadlock for the home side.
Karl Duguid's brace coupled with Ian Henderson and Lloyd James efforts helped Colchester United win 4-1 against Bury, who scored a 90th minute goal through Lenell John-Lewis.
Kevin Lisbie scored penalties either side of a Jonathan Tehoue header to earn Leyton Orient a 3-0 win against Exeter City, while Preston and Stevenage ended goalless.
Stuart Beavon grabbed a last-gasp winner to help Wycombe Wanderers defeat Chesterfield 3-2. Anthony McNamee and on-loan Marcello Trotta netted the Chairboys' other goals, while Dean Morgan netted twice for the visitors. In the west country, Andrew Williams scored two minutes from time to earn Yeovil a 1-0 win against Notts County.
