OWLS MOVE UP

Sheffield Wednesday leapt above city rivals Sheffield United and into the automatic promotion places of npower League 1 after the Blades were beaten 3-2 at Carlisle United.

Ivorian forward Francois Zoko scored twice in the first 15 minutes - either side of Ched Evans' effort - as the hosts went 2-1 ahead early on. Evans equalised on the cusp of half-time but JP McGovern stole the points 19 minutes from time for the play-off chasing Cumbrians.

Wednesday, meanwhile, beat Tranmere Rovers 2-1 to go second in the table. Reda Johnson opened the scoring after two minutes, Chris Lines added another in the seventh minute and Ian Goodison grabbed a late consolation for Rovers.

CHARLTON MARCH ON

Table-topping Charlton Athletic completed a 2-0 win over Brentford to end the day five points clear at the summit. Michael Morrison scored the first in the 31st minute but it was not until the closing moments that Danny Green made it safe.

Huddersfield Town's prolific striker Jordan Rhodes was on target once again but his side could only manage a 2-2 draw at Notts County. Gary Roberts (52) and Rhodes (58) put Town two ahead only for Jeff Hughes' penalty and Lee Hughes' late strike peg them back.

ELSEWHERE IN THE DIVISION

Stevenage saw a sequence of three consecutive wins ended by a 1-0 home defeat by Leyton Orient as both sides finished with 10 men. Lee Cook scored the only goal after 15 minutes, while Ben Chorley and Chuks Aneke saw red.

MK Dons remained in fourth place with a 1-0 victory over visiting Colchester United , courtesy of Gary McKenzie's goal in the 53rd minute.

Rock-bottom Chesterfield managed a point at home to Oldham Athletic as Mathieu Smith cancelled out Jorden Bowery's opener while there was also a 1-1 draw for second-bottom Rochdale, who saw new loan signing Daniel Bogdanovic level after Jake Jervis notched in the 16th minute for Preston North End.

Neale Cooper's first home match back in charge of Hartlepool United ended in a 2-1 loss to Scunthorpe United while Exeter City and Yeovil Town drew 1-1 with Richard Logan and Andy Williams the men on target.

A Mat Sadler own-goal and a Peter Sweeney effort were enough to secure a 2-1 win for Bury against Walsall and Wycombe dropped to 22nd in the table after a 2-0 reverse at Bournemouth, who had Wes Thomas and Michael Symes on the scoresheet.
