Charlton Athletic midfielder Johnnie Jackson has been named npower League 1 Player of the Month for January.
Jackson picks up the npower Player of the Month award after scoring winning goals over both Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.
Powell said: "I'm proud of my captain. I've always said that sometimes games will be decided by moments of brilliance, and last month John did it not once, but twice, against two of our rivals to earn us six points.
"He's got a good rapport with Rhoys Wiggins down the left, and it's a great honour for him."
Sky Sports' Football League expert Peter Beagrie sits on the npower Player of the Month judging panel.
He said: "After returning from injury Johnnie played a big part in driving his team to another great month of results.
"His winning free-kicks against both Sheffield clubs showed that he has great technique and ability."
Addicks boss Chris Powell was also named as the npower League 1 Manager of the Month and npower Head of Sponsorship Emma Collins said: "Charlton further enhanced their promotion credentials last month after picking up 13 points from a possible 15.
"Chris has got his players playing with confidence and Johnnie showed that by scoring two of the most eye-catching goals we've seen all season.
"On behalf of npower, I'd like to congratulate Chris, Johnnie and the rest of the team, and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season."
The judging panel comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Peter Beagrie, Football League Head of Communications John Nagle, BBC Sport's Mark Clemmit and npower Head of Sponsorship Emma Collins.
