Sheffield United missed the chance to put clear air between themselves and promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Colchester United in npower League 1.

Will Hoskins put the Blades in front on 32 minutes but Steven Gillespie's 56th minute equaliser left United sitting just two points clear of their neighbours, and nine behind leaders Charlton Athletic.

Stevenage maintained their push for the play-offs with a late 1-0 win over Oldham Athletic. Lawrie Wilson's 90th minute header sent his side to within two points of sixth-placed Notts County.

Jon Parkin's double earned struggling Scunthorpe United a 2-2 draw at Yeovil Town. The hosts twice led through Gavin Williams and Jonathan Franks but twice the on-loan Cardiff City player struck back, snatching his second equaliser in stoppage time.

Andy Robinson's 67th minute strike gave Tranmere Rovers a 2-1 win over Preston North End at Prenton Park. Graham Cummins had opened the scoring in the 12th minute for Preston before Enoch Showunmi equalised three minutes later.
