Stevenage boss Gary Smith has turned to former Arsenal full-back Nigel Winterburn to boost their promotion bid.

Winterburn is helping coach Boro's defenders with Smith hoping a touch of that famously mean Gunners back four of the 1990s will rub off on his side.

"Nigel is somebody I've known for a good while now," Smith told Boro's official website. "Having been involved in one of the best, if not the best, back fours I've ever seen at Arsenal his knowledge and experience is invaluable to the guys we have here."

Smith added: "He's not just a good coach, he's a wonderful character. He's fitted in terrifically well and the players have warmed very nicely to him. It can only be good for the group."
