Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws could be forced into the loan market if defender David Mirfin's knee injury is more serious than first thought.
Mirfin missed Tuesday night's win at Walsall after sustaining the injury in last Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Gillingham and is now waiting to learn the severity of damage.
Laws told the club's official website: "The knee has not reacted as well as we thought so we're going to have him scanned.
"We'll wait for the results but we're hoping it's not serious. He has tried everything to make himself available, but there's a bit of soreness as well.
"If Mirf is out, though, it shows we have an issue because we don't really have any cover in the central defensive areas and that might be another area I have to concentrate on strengthening. We'll just have to wait and see."
