Carlisle have signed Jordan Mustoe on loan from Barclays Premier League side Wigan.

The 22-year-old defender will remain at Brunton Park until the end of the campaign.

Mustoe has made four appearances for Roberto Martinez's side - all coming in the FA Cup - and started the 1-0 win over Macclesfield in this season's fourth round.

He played 19 times for Barnet last season, before enjoying a further loan spell at Morecambe this term.

Blues boss Greg Abbott was delighted to secure the former Liverpool youth team player's signature.

"Jordan is one we've been talking about for a while now and it's good for us that we've got him in," he told the club's official website.

"He's had a couple of good, long loan spells before this one, where he has done very well, and he's very highly thought of at Wigan.

"It's a great opportunity for him to come in and get some competitive football at an age when that's exactly what he wants and needs. As always in these cases, if it goes well, as we think it will, then it's a good move for all concerned."

Mustoe added: "This move will help me get some more good experience and it will show that I can handle this level.

"My aim has to be to challenge for the first team with Wigan so I want to come here and do my best."
