Preston have signed Tom Clarke following the defender's release by Huddersfield.

Clarke becomes Simon Grayson's first signing since his appointment as North End manager in February, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old can play at right-back, centre-half and in midfield.

"Tom is a defender who likes to defend," said Grayson. "He is a versatile player and is a really good player to have around. I was very impressed by what I saw of him at Huddersfield and thought he would suit us.

"You get a player who is 100 per cent committed, loves to tackle, head the ball and hopefully he will compete for a place and contribute to plenty of clean sheets next season."

Meanwhile, Clarke, who played under Grayson at Huddersfield, was pleased to get his future sorted so early in the summer.

He said: "When I heard the manager was interested I just wanted to get it done and now I can't wait to get started.

"It is a pleasure to train with the gaffer, he gets us working hard and with the promotions he has under his belt, it shows he is a good manager and I am looking forward to being part of the squad at Preston."
