MK Dons have made a loan enquiry about Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles, Press Association Sport understands.
With Antony Kay out for the next three months following hip surgery, the Dons have been left short in the centre of defence.
Captain Dean Lewington moved across from left-back to fill in against Stevenage on Tuesday night as the Milton Keynes club went out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Tom Flanagan was suspended for the second-round tie.
Dons boss Karl Robinson has asked about the availability of Lascelles, who between January and May in 2012 had a loan spell with the Dons' Sky Bet League One rivals Stevenage.
The 19-year-old would probably welcome the chance to play first-team football again.
Being behind the likes of Kelvin Wilson, Jack Hobbs, Danny Collins and Greg Halford in the pecking order at the City Ground, he has made just two appearances for Forest this season - starting both Capital One Cup matches against Millwall and Burnley.
Lascelles' only league start for the Reds came in January 2012 in a 2-0 home defeat to Burnley when Steve Cotterill was manager.
