Tranmere Rovers have assured supporters their managerial search remains ongoing with the vacancy at Prenton Park still yet to be filled.

Rovers were relegated into Sky Bet League 2 at the start of this month under interim manager John McMahon, who was handed the reins after first-team boss Ronnie Moore was first suspended, then sacked following an FA charge into betting breaches.

The need for a new manager at the club appears paramount with top scorer Ryan Lowe this week leaving to join Bury after the two-year contract offer he wanted failed to materalise.

However, chief executive Jez Butler has moved to tell fans that Tranmere are carrying out an extensive search for their next boss.

"In line with our plans for a bright future, we have been carrying out an extensive search for a new manager for next season," he said on the club's official website.

"The role of the next manager is wide ranging in terms of implementing a new ethos and structure at the club, as well as the primary aim of winning promotion.

"We appreciate the process is taking longer than some supporters had expected but we are working hard on ensuring we appoint the correct candidate."
