It's been a long time coming but Chesterfield's move to a new stadium is gathering pace.
The Coca-Cola League 2 side have named their new ground the B2net Stadium, following a ground- breaking sponsorship deal with Chesterfield based IT-company, B2net.
The £13million stadium finally gained planning permission last summer and work began on the former Dema Glass site in July, with the club set to move in in time for the start of the 2010/11 season.
The 10,600 seater stadium has been not only designed with football in mind but also the local community, with an innovative project being led by the newly formed Chesterfield FC in the Community Trust.
The Trust is currently speaking to several local partners with the aim of providing facilities such as, a multi-purpose sports and community room, which could include a sports injury clinic, meeting rooms, a gym and healthy living resource for all ages and a wave pool for rehabilitation amongst other things.
CFC community director John Croot said: "Although indicative plans have been made there is still scope for local partners to influence the build as this is not just about facilities. The Trust expects to be the catalyst for other community projects in Chesterfield and the surrounding area using football and the Chesterfield FC brand."
He added: "We hope that existing partnerships with schools, local authorities, health trusts, and the police will be supplemented by new partners for even wider-reaching projects for the benefit of all."
The stadium is being built by GB Building solutions and Chairman and Chief Executive Martin Smout, admitted it had been a long and lengthy process:
"We've been involved with this project for a considerable time.
"Our development arm, GB Development Solutions, has played a significant part in putting all the pieces of the puzzle together that will allow Chesterfield Football Club to move from their current home at Saltergate to the new facility at Whittington Moor.
"GB Building's delivery team in the North has also been involved for quite some time, continually working with the Football Club to refine the specification and provide an affordable scheme whilst satisfying the requirements of a professional football club in the twenty first century."
