Chesterfield defender Aaron Downes faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate ligament injury for the second time in just 12 months.

The Australian only returned to action in January after suffering the first injury in April last year and now he faces another operation.

The Spireites star has made seven appearances in League 2 this season and scored in his last match against Port Vale earlier this month, before he was forced off at half time.

The news comes as a blow for John Sheridan's side who currently sit fourth in the Coca-Cola League 2 table as he told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It's a massive blow.

"The lad's worked really hard to get back playing and it's a shame but I know he'll come back."
