Northampton manager Gary Johnson believes defender Seth Nana Ofori-Twumasi could be out for at least 12 months with a knee injury.
The 21-year-old sustained the injury in the 3-0 win at Wimbledon and Johnson is fearful it may be at least a year before he can return to first-team action.
Johnson told the Northampton Chronicle: "It's a horrible injury, it's a long-term one."
He added: "It's a shame for him, he's the one that's got to spend probably 12 months in the wilderness waiting for his injury to get better.
"There's not a lot you can say to a player when they get something that's going to mean they're going to have to have a year out.
"It's a long, hard road and he's going to have to get on with it."
