Morecambe striker Danny Carlton has been named npower League 2 Player of the Month for September.

Carlton netted five goals in five games to help The Shrimps cement their place in the League 2 automatic promotion spots.

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley said: "Danny showed just what he is capable of with his hat-trick against Crawley being one of the highlights of the season so far.

"He has been in excellent form this season and always offers a real threat in front of goal.

"He also works tremendously hard in training and I am delighted that he has won this award both for him and his team-mates.''

Sky Sports' Football League expert Peter Beagrie sits on the npower Player of the Month judging panel.

He said: "Five goals, including a brilliant treble against Crawley, made September a very satisfying month for Danny.

"His goal-scoring exploits helped ensure Morecambe maintained their superb start to the season."

npower Head of Sponsorship Emma Collins said: "Danny has played a big part in Morecambe's strong start to the season.

"He looks extremely confident at the moment and has taken his goals well.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Peter Beagrie, Football League Head of Communications John Nagle, BBC Sport's Mark Clemmit and npower Head of Sponsorship Emma Collins.
