ROBINS GO TOP

Cheltenham Town took advantage of Southend United and Crawley Town's weekend away from npower League 2 action to climb to the top of the table with a 3-1 win over Macclesfield Town.

The hosts actually took the lead on the half-hour mark through debutant Marcus Marshall but Sido Jombati levelled seven minutes later and second half goals from Jeff Goulding and Luke Garbutt clinched the points for the Robins.

SHREWS MOVE CLOSER

Shrewsbury Town are now only a point off the automatic promotion places after their 2-0 win at Hereford United, with Terry Gornell and James Collins scoring first half goals.

There was a fifth straight win for Torquay United, who edged out bottom side Northampton Town thanks to Mark Ellis' 75th minute goal, while Accrington Stanley are up into the Play-Off places after a thrilling 4-3 victory over Gillingham.

Accies looked in control after a first half hat-trick from Michael Smith and one from Luke Joyce, with Danny Jackman's early goal all Gillingham had to show for their efforts, but a late brace from Gavin Tomlin meant a nervous finish for the hosts.

ELSEWHERE IN THE DIVISION

At the bottom of the table there was a crucial win for Dagenham & Redbridge, who are out of the bottom two after beating faltering Rotherham United 3-2. Danny Harrison put the Millers ahead but Jon Nurse levelled matters five minutes after the break and an own goal from Mark Bradley in the 62nd minute made it 2-1 to the Daggers.

A minute later things were all square again as Alex Revell struck but Scott Doe won the game 12 minutes from time and Rotherham's miserable afternoon was complete when Michael Raynes was sent off late on.

Dagenham are two points ahead of second bottom Plymouth Argyle after they went down 1-0 to Port Vale, Tom Pope grabbing the only goal four minutes from time.

Anthony Straker netted both goals as Aldershot Town saw off AFC Wimbledon 2-1, Sammy Moore the hosts' goalscorer, while there was the same scoreline in Bristol where Rovers defeated 10-man Bradford City. The hosts led by goals from Lee Brown and Eliot Richards when Rob Kozluk was dismissed, before Andrew Davies volleyed home a consolation.

Crewe Alexandra were reduced to nine men before half-time and slumped to a 2-0 loss at Barnet. Dave Artell was sent off for a foul on Izale McLeod, with the striker netting the resulting penalty on the half hour mark, and Adam Dugdale then saw a straight red for a foul, but it was not until the 77th minute that Michael Hector made sure of the points.
