On-loan Chesterfield defender Aaron Downes could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Downes has suffered the injury during his time at Bristol Rovers.

It is unclear at the moment whether the 26-year-old will return to his parent club or recover at the Memorial Stadium.

Downes joined Rovers in January and the Australian had recently extended his stay until the end of the current campaign.

The centre-back has made six appearances for the npower League Two club.

He arrived two days before the sacking of former manager Paul Buckle and has started every game since the appointment of new boss Mark McGhee.
