Torquay United skipper Lee Mansell has been named npower League 2 Player of the Month for March.

Mansell scored four goals from centre midfield in a month where The Gulls strengthened their promotion push with six wins and a draw from eight games.

Torquay United Manager Martin Ling said: "Lee is the heartbeat of our team. He is someone we all look up to and latch on to.

"He has been an inspirational leader and fully deserves the npower Player of the Month award. His goal-return has been absolutely brilliant."

Sky Sports' Football League expert Peter Beagrie sits on the npower Player of the Month judging panel.

He said: "Midfield maestro Lee Mansell drove his Torquay side from sixth place to second in a marvellous March.

Mansell covered every blade of grass, destroying and creating. The all action midfielder also found the net on four occasions."

npower Head of Sponsorship Emma Collins said: "Lee's tireless performances in the middle of the park have been vital to The Gull's push for automatic promotion.

"Lee has helped to cover at the back and scored four goals when he ventured forward.

"On behalf of npower, I'd like to congratulate Lee, and wish him the best of luck for the rest of the season."

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Peter Beagrie, Football League Head of Communications John Nagle, BBC Sport's Mark Clemmit and npower Head of Sponsorship Emma Collins.
