The Dagenham & Redbridge players will have been happy to have steered clear of the relegation dogfight last season, but now the fans have provided something for the Daggers to really celebrate this season - winning £10,000 for the club via the Fanpower Stadium competition, which was run by The Football League title sponsors npower.
Hosted on Facebook, the competition rewarded the club who had the most fans "take a seat" in the virtual Fanpower Stadium, and therefore achieve the highest attendance.
The East London side ran away with the £10,000 participation pot, with their loyal fans signing up in droves and then taking to Twitter and Facebook to show their support. In the 11-week competition, Dagenham & Redbridge fans signed up and generated nearly 50,000 noise counts through Twitter and Facebook mentioning their beloved Daggers.
Fans will now get the opportunity to vote how the prize money is spent within the club at www.facebook.com/npowerfootballleague. Voting closes at midnight on Sun 17 June.
The club has identified three areas that could potentially benefit from the prize:
- Refurnish a building in the main car park as a new club shop
- Purchase a mini bus for the Centre of Excellence
- Provide a new pitch frost protection system
The most popular option as voted for by Daggers fans, will receive the £10,000 prize money.
