York defender Clarke Carlisle came in for special praise from manager Gary Mills following his performance in the weekend derby draw at Bradford.

PFA chairman Carlisle made a howler that led directly to a goal in last week's heavy Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Coventry after being recalled to Mills' starting line-up, but bounced back with a solid display in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Valley Parade.

"Clarke knows he gave away a silly goal the other night, but he was big and brave enough to come back from that and put his head on the block," Mills said after the game.

"It takes a big man and character to do that and I was pleased with him on Saturday."

Mills added: "We gave the game to Coventry last Tuesday, but the response at Bradford proved that it didn't bother the players.

"We've shown in this league that, if we don't win, we are certainly a tough team to beat."
