New Accrington manager Leam Richardson was full of praise for goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin after his world class display earned his side a point at the Globe Arena.
The Stanley keeper, who had a loan spell at Morecambe several years ago, saved an injury time penalty from Richard Brodie and produced a string of fantastic blocks in the game much to the delight of rookie boss Richardson.
He said: "In the end it was a fantastic point because we were far from our best. We had to thank Ian Dunbavin for a great save and he is having a superb season. I actually wasn't surprised that he saved the penalty because he is having such a great year and he takes all the plaudits tonight.
"The lads are disappointed with their display because we didn't move the ball as well as we can. Our shape wasn't as good as it should be and we had to play on the back foot for long periods and in the end I have to be happy with the point.
"We did have a couple of chances at the end but I think it would have been daylight robbery if we had won the game."
Dunbavin made three top-draw saves during normal time to frustrate a Morecambe side who have still to beat Stanley in 11 Football League meetings. He flew to his right hand side on 26 minutes to tip away a stinging Jack Redshaw drive and followed that up by pushing away a Lewis Alessandra curler on the half hour.
Alessandra went close early in the second half with a curler that hit the underside of the bar but then wasted a golden chance to give Morecambe the lead on 58 minutes but produced the miss of the season when he failed to score an open goal from one yard out.
The Shrimps were given a late chance to take the points when Dean Winnard fouled Kevin Ellison in the area but Brodie's effort was superbly tipped away by Dunbavin. And Morecambe boss Jim Bentley said Dunbavin gave a performance of Premier League class.
"If that was a Premier League game people would be raving about his performance for weeks on end," he said.
"He was brilliant and he made some amazing saves to keep us out. I still don't really know how we didn't win the game because we played some great stuff and created some great chances but couldn't put them away."
