York manager Gary Mills was disappointed with his sides' second-half performance after they let a lead slip to draw 1-1 against 10-man Northampton.

Matty Blair put the hosts in front with a cool finish after a long ball forward from Ashley Chambers. Things got worse for Northampton as they were reduced to 10 men after 38 minutes when Louis Moult was shown a straight red card for a wild challenge on Chris Smith.

But the Cobblers started the second half well and scored a deserved equaliser when Chris Hackett's free-kick was spilled by York goalkeeper Michael Ingham, allowing Adebayo Akinfenwa a simple tap-in from close range.

Mills said: "We started the second half very poorly. We we're very sloppy in the opening 10 minutes which gave them a lift and then they went and got the goal. That gave them another lift and we just couldn't get going in the second half.

"But we have got ourselves another point and it is important that we come out on Saturday and go and get the three points."

Speaking about Blair's goal, Mills added: "We all know what he is capable of. That is why I play him in the middle. He has come from that middle position again and has gone around the defender superbly. Once he has gone around him it is never easy to score and he has put it away really well."

Northampton manager Aidy Boothroyd was delighted with his side's fight back. He said: "If you are going to do anything as a team you have to have spirit and I thought that was a wonderful second-half performance.

"It is the third time that we have been down to 10 men now this season, I think we can sometimes be a little too enthusiastic in the tackle. I think the second half performance was really professional and I believe we had the better chances in the second half."

Speaking about Moult's red card, Boothroyd added: "It is a sending off, there is no complaints from us. Louis has got an edge to him and I think all good strikers have that. Sometimes when you are a young man it can spill over a little bit.

"I think he was frustrated that he didn't get the free-kick and he has thrown himself at the ball and caught Smith and he deserved to go.
