Bristol Rovers defender Tom Parkes is expected to spend a substantial length of time on the sidelines with a suspected broken ankle.
Pirates boss Mark McGhee confirmed the player is receiving treatment, but is not expecting good news from the club's medical staff.
Parkes, who has made 16 appearances for McGhee's side so far this campaign, was stretchered off in the final moments of Rovers' 4-0 defeat at Port Vale on Tuesday night.
McGhee said: "We think Tom has fractured his ankle.
"He's gone off to the hospital in a splint and we fear the worst.
"The amount of serious injuries we've had this year has been absolutely unbelievable and you wonder where it will all end.
"I was looking forward to having all the players back and available next week and now it looks as though we may lose one of our better ones for a significant period of time."
