Rochdale have completed the signing of winger Andy Haworth on a free transfer until the end of the season.

Haworth is Keith Hill's first acquisition following his return as manager and himself begins a second spell at Spotland, having played seven games under Hill during a 2010 loan stint from Blackburn.

The 24-year-old was released by Falkirk in November and is in line to feature in Dale's Friday night trip to Cheltenham, subject to clearance.

Speaking on Wednesday, Hill underlined his intention to explore the possibility of signing free agents and identified wide areas as a part of his inherited squad that required strengthening.

He said: "The window's open for a week on permanent signings but there's players who are out of contract.

"I've looked at the PFA list, there's plenty of players available and there's a loan market which will open up again.

"I do like to play with width. There's a lack of natural width and whether you're going to start with that or introduce it later on it can be an unbelievable tactic."
