Each week the Official Football League website will bring you the Team of the Week. Produced by the Press Association, the Teams of the Week features the eleven top performing players from each division from the weekend's matches.
Gavin Tomlin made the npower League 2 Team of the Week as part of the forward pairing after he secured three points for Southend United on Saturday. The 29-year-old worked hard throughout the game and got his reward in the 83rd minute, he was sent clear on goal by Michael Timlin and Tomlin made no mistake slotting home to see the Shrimpers to a 1-0 win and into a Play-Off position.
Partnering Tomlin upfront is Gillingham's Danny Kedwell, the Gillingham-born front man caused several issues for the Minstermen defence as the Gills closed the gap on leaders Port Vale with a 1-1 draw against York City. The Valiants were not in league action due to FA Cup commitments.
Also making the team from the fixture is York's Patrick McLaughlin and goalkeeper Michael Ingham. Central midfielder McLaughlin played well and his deadball deliveries were a constant threat throughout. It was one of his corners that led to the opening goal as Charlie Lee headed into his own net to give the Yorkshire outfit a 15th-minute lead, while Ingham pulled off a number of good saves to frustrate Gillingham.
Alongside McLaughlin in the centre of the park is John Oster, the Barnet man pulled the strings for his side but it wasn't enough to avoid a 1-0 loss at Burton Albion. Taking their places on the wings are Rochdale's Bobby Grant and Plymouth Argyle's Paris Cowan-Hall.
Both were involved in 0-0 draws for their respective teams and Grant played well on the Dale's left, he came close to opening the scoring only to be denied by Scott Brown, while Cowan-Hall attacked well on the Pilgrims' right. The 22-year-old also almost made the scoresheet when he cut in from wide and was a whisker away from connecting with a low Onismor Bhasera cross.
In this past weekend's schedule only five teams managed to register a clean sheet and three of those teams have defenders in this week's Team of the Week.
Fleetwood Town bolstered their promotion credentials with a 3-0 win over Oxford United to leave them level on points with Southend in seventh, the final Play-Off spot. Defenders Shaun Beeley and Ryan Atkinson were solid at the back to shut-out the U's attack.
Partnering Atkinson in the middle of the back four is Southend's Ryan Cresswell. The 25-year-old played his part in Essex outfit's win with a dominant display in defence.
Completing the team is Burton Albion's Damien McCrory, who starred at the back in the aforementioned 1-0 win over Barnet that saw the Brewers climb to sixth and level on points with third-placed Northampton Town.
