Plymouth Argyle's fantastic run of form in March has been rewarded with manager John Sheridan and forward Jason Banton picking up the npower League 2 Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively.

One of several sides involved in the npower League 2 relegation dogfight, Sheridan's men had a month that might be remembered as the one that kept them up.

Four wins, a draw, and just a solitary loss to league leaders Gillingham ensured that Argyle fans will be hopeful of a great escape.

If they are to avoid the drop, the impact of on-loan star Jason Banton will not be forgotten. The 20-year-old's dazzling dribbling ability helped the Pilgrims to their 13 points from 18 in March and lifted them out of the relegation zone.

Prepared to run at defenders, he reveled in a free role, scoring three goals including a Devon derby day winner against Exeter City.

Speaking about John Sheridan's win, panel member Alan Curbishley commented: "John Sheridan has made a vital impact since his appointment at Plymouth as the club's four wins in March, built around solid defensive foundations, have now given them a realistic chance of maintaining their Football League status."

Commenting from npower, Partnership and Sponsorship Manager Katy Thomas added: "The bottom of npower League 2 has been extraordinarily tight in recent weeks, with about five or six teams fighting for survival.

"Both in the dugout and on the pitch, Plymouth Argyle have had an inspired month and with so little between the sides near the bottom, this run could well be crucial."
