Newport County have won promotion to The Football League following a late 2-0 victory over Wrexham at Wembley in the Blue Square Premier Play-Off Final.

The first goal of the game arrived with just four minutes left; Wrexham's David Artell got his head to a ball over the top but couldn't deal with it completely and Christian Jolley latched on to it and lifted the ball over Chris Maxwell to give the Exiles the late advantage.

As Andy Morrell's side pushed for a leveller they were caught on the counter-attack in time added on and their fate was sealed. Aaron O'Connor hammered the ball into the roof of the net, at the second attempt, after his initial effort was saved by Maxwell, to prompt wild celebrations

The showpiece Final was Newport's second match under the arch in as many seasons, after they appeared in the FA Trophy Final last year, losing to York City 2-0. Their Play-Off success would have wiped out that disapointment and Justin Edinburgh's men will now take their place in npower League 2.

Their promotion rounds off a dramatic turnaround in fortunes since Edinburgh, who won two Wembley finals as a Tottenham Hotspur player, took over at the helm in October 2011, when the team were struggling in the bottom half of the Blue Square Premier.

The Exiles will now take their place in npower League 2, alongside Mansfield Town, who won the Blue Square Premier title.
