Mansfield have been dealt an injury blow with the news that Chris Clements could be out for around four months with the knee injury he suffered against York.

Clements was forced off two minutes before half-time in the Stags' 2-1 victory at Bootham Crescent on Saturday with suspected medial ligament damage.

Scans have confirmed the injury and the central midfielder faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he begins his rehabilitation.

``He had a scan yesterday (Monday) to confirm that he severely strained his medial ligament,`` Mansfield's first-team physio Simon Murphy told the club's official website.

``He is starting his rehab straight away. He will see a specialist this week to get a proper time frame (to how long he'll be sidelined), but we're looking at a case of months rather than weeks.

``"We will know later this week whether he needs an operation. Hopefully he won't, and if he doesn't then he'll be back quicker than four months - we're using that as a bench mark."

Stags manager Paul Cox added: "It's a big loss for us and I feel gutted for the kid. He's been playing well and has been getting better and better each game."
