Torquay have made long-serving left-back Kevin Nicholson available for loan.

The 32-year-old has made eight appearances for the Gulls this season and 289 in all but requested first-team football after Tom Cruise started the 4-2 win over Cheltenham on Saturday.

"It was a surprise for me but I totally understood it, at the age he is and he is an experienced player, he doesn't want to watch someone else play," manager Alan Knill said.

"So he said to me he wants to go on loan, so I said okay and we will wait and see what happens."

Niall Thompson, Ashley Yeoman, Nathan Craig and Jake Hutchings have also been made available for loan, but there has yet to be any movement on that front and they look to be available for the trip to Newport.

"'There has been no movement but they are available for loan and it's just really about getting games," Knill added. "The majority of them came to me, they wanted to play first-team football somewhere else.

"'If it comes around, that frees up some money for us to go and get someone else."
