Newport County claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over 10-man Chesterfield in a five-goal thriller at Rodney Parade.

The Welsh club appeared on the ropes after Jimmy Ryan had cancelled out Danny Crow's earlier effort.

But Liam Cooper hauled down Conor Washington in the penalty area, resulting in his dismissal, and Adam Chapman duly fired home from the spot.

Andy Sandell then completed the job before Marc Richards claimed an injury-time consolation to set up a frantic finale.

Southend United spurned the chance to go top of Sky Bet League 2 after Matt Richards' injury-time penalty salvaged a 1-1 draw for travelling Cheltenham Town.

Kevan Hurst handed Southend the lead four minutes before half-time but the hosts could not hold out.

Oxford United stay top despite scrambling to a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town.

Stephen Schumacher's 12th-minute strike put the home side ahead and Oxford then squandered a chance to level when former Fleetwood man Danny Rose saw his penalty saved by Scott Davies.

Scunthorpe United's 3-1 victory over Torquay United sends them to fourth, with the Devon side falling to the foot of the table.

Exeter City and Bury shared a 2-2 draw, Tom Nichols coming off the bench to grab a 77th-minute equaliser for the Grecians.

Ross Dyer gave the home side the lead on 17 minutes, before Redshaw levelled and Ellison struck the winner five minutes from time. Sam Clucas missed a 75th-minute penalty for Mansfield that would have put them back in front.

Adam McGurk netted an early winner for Burton Albion in their 1-0 triumph at Plymouth Argyle while York City held high-flying Rochdale to a goalless draw at Bootham Crescent.
