Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates has been named the Sky Bet League 2 Manager of the Month for December.

After working tirelessly to overcome Cheltenham's stuttering start, Yates reaped the rewards in December.

Most impressive of their 10 points from five games were the three earned in a clinical 2-0 triumph at Fleetwood Town.

Alan Curbishley, who chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, said: "Mark Yates and Cheltenham recorded an impressive 10 points from five games in December.

"Their form has moved them up the Sky Bet League 2 table and they are showing the sort of form we saw last season."

Sky Sports' Football League pundit Don Goodman said: "Although Cheltenham's 11-match unbeaten run came to an end just before New Year, Mark still deserves massive credit for maintaining their push for the Play-Offs.

"Victories against close rivals Morecambe, Fleetwood Town and Exeter City may be crucial come the end of the season."

Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins said: "Only one defeat in the month of December has led Cheltenham to 11th in Sky Bet League 2 and a push for the Play-Offs looks on the cards.

"Mark Yates will be looking towards the evergreen Jamie Cureton to keep scoring the goals needed for Cheltenham reach Sky Bet League 1."
