Bury have signed former Barnsley defender Jim McNulty on an 18-month-deal after he departed Oakwell by mutual consent.

The experienced left-sided 28-year-old began his career at Wrexham before playing for a host of clubs including Stockport and Brighton, where he commanded a transfer fee of £150,000 back in 2009.

McNulty last appeared for Tranmere, while on loan from the Tykes, but was sent off in his final game on December 20 for a professional foul.

He has already played under Bury boss David Flitcroft during the pair's time together at Barnsley, with McNulty leaving the Tykes earlier on Friday after two years with the Championship club.

McNulty will go straight into the Shakers' squad for Saturday's League Two clash with Burton.
