Evan Horwood has been released by Tranmere Rovers after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old defender joined the club last year from Hartlepool and went on to make 22 appearances in a Tranmere shirt, scoring one goal.

Tranmere were the 10th club of his career following spells with Sheffield United, Stockport, Scunthorpe, York, Chester, Darlington and Gretna before he settled down at Carlisle and Hartlepool, where he made over 100 appearances in his three years.

Harwood spent the last few months of last season on loan at Northampton.
