Tranmere Rovers have confirmed the signing of free-agent Marc Laird on a one-year deal.

The former Millwall midfielder, who began his career at Manchester City, put pen-to-paper on a short-term deal after being released by Southend in the summer.

"I'm really pleased Marc has agreed to join us," Rovers boss Rob Edwards told the club's official website.

"He's shown his commitment to the club by coming in and training with us for a week.

"He's got a great attitude and someone who will add fantastic fitness levels and know-how to our midfield.

"He'll really complement the other players we've got in that department."

Laird becomes the sixth summer arrival at Prenton Park, following in the footsteps of Kayode Odejayi, Marcus Holness, Michael Ihiekwe, Eliot Richards and Matt Gill.
