Mansfield Town have signed creative midfielder Fergus Bell on a one-year deal, Press Association Sport understands.

Bell, who came through the youth ranks at Sunderland, turned down the offer of a new contract with AC Monza Brianza 1912 because he wanted to return to England and he becomes the second player this summer to join the Stags from the lower league Italian outfit following striker Alex Fisher to the One Call Stadium.

The 23-year-old featured for Mansfield in a behind-closed-doors game against Huddersfield's development squad on Thursday and, along with Fisher, impressed during the 4-1 victory for Paul Cox's side.

Bell joined Hibernian following his departure from Sunderland and also had stints at Spanish side Jerez and Belgian clubs KRC Mechelen and K.S.K. Heist before signing for AC Monza Brianza 1912 in August 2013.
