Huddersfield Town, represented by Meltham CE Primary, came away with a fantastic win in the npower Football League Kids Cup 2011 League 1 Final. The young Terriers beat Bristol Rovers, represented by Henleaze Junior School, in a gripping game at Old Trafford ahead of the npower League 1 Play-Off final.
Jordan Williams put Huddersfield Town ahead with a stunning strike and his celebration was one to remember as he dropped to his knees and slid towards the Huddersfield Town fans who had taken their seats early to support their young side.
Town struck again shortly before the half-time whistle as Liam Ralph skilfully slotted past the Bristol Rovers keeper after an amazing Messi-esque run across the Old Trafford turf.
Alfie Copley, Huddersfield Town team captain, said: "It is the best feeling in the world to win. We played so well today and felt confident from the whistle.
"It was amazing to have our families here watching and to be able to go and celebrate winning in front of the Huddersfield Town fans."
The npower Football League Kids Cup is a national tournament for U11 schoolchildren. Local schools go head-to-head to win the opportunity to represent their local Football League club in the regional stages.
Each year the npower Kids Cup Final is played prior to the Play-Off Finals.
Gary Speed, Manager of the Welsh National Team sent the finalists a special good luck message ahead of their game. He told them: "Reaching the npower Football League Kid Cup Final is a huge achievement in itself so you should all be very proud of yourselves. Remember what I taught you in our coaching session and I look forward to hearing the result."
