Chris Iwelumo has proved he is big enough to bounce back from his missed-goal nightmare for Scotland.

He said he could rise above the debut from hell - and he has stayed true to his word.

The giant Wolves striker could not get any lower than the moment when he missed a sitter on his international debut at Hampden Park in the goalless draw with Norway.

Some thought the former Colchester United hitman would struggle to get over it all.

They reckoned without the steely determination that lurks inside Iwelumo, who has won the Championship Powerade Player of the Month award for November.

Iwelumo, 30, smacked in six goals last month and currently has 15 goals for Mick McCarthy's table-toppers.

He said: "Before I went to Scotland I was in great form.

"It was one of those misses which are part and parcel of football. I just had to get back to Wolves and carry on doing what I'd been doing.

"I've scored seven goals since then so it's all forgotten from my point of view. I have shown I've put it behind me.

"I had a QPR fan trying to banter me off about it. I had to ask him to be a bit more original - like I'd never heard that one before!

"I think he was a bit embarrassed, but for me it is all passed and forgotten. I am looking to the future.

"Life is too short to get down about things and I always said I was going back to come back and carry on for Wolves."

Iwelumo is delighted to get Player of the Month recognition individually, as everyone at Molineux bids to stay at the head of the promotion race.

He is on course to beat his best-ever goal tally of 19 in all competitions during his last season at Colchester in League 1.

He added: "Things have been going well and, while I don't want to give myself the kiss of death, hopefully the chances will keep coming!

"I remember Karl Henry saying to me pre-season that the way the team were playing and the service that was coming in meant I would score goals.

"Maybe I didn't know to what extent - but I'm delighted with how it's all gone.

"I'd been nominated for the Powerade in August. It's always nice to be thought of, and means you are doing something right.

"I would like to be in the frame for one or two more before the end of the season."
