Mudeford Junior School beat Meir Heath Primary School to win the League 2 Community Cup Final
Football League - Community Cup

For months Callum Baughan has been dreaming of scoring at Wembley Stadium and on Sunday it became reality as the Mudeford Junior School striker struck a last-gasp winner to hand his school the League 2 Community Cup trophy.

Organised by The Football League Trust, the Community Cup this season attracted over 1,400 school children from Year 6 and under to compete in a regional and then national six-a-side competition with the chance of representing their local League 2 side under the famous arch.

And playing against Meir Heath Primary on the hallowed turf just an hour before Dagenham & Redbridge locked horns with Rotherham United in the Coca-Cola League 2 Final, Callum added his name to the list of heroes to have scored at the stadium.

"It feels really good," said Callum. "I never thought I would score at Wembley but I have done it. I hope that I will back next year playing in the team and that I will have another opportunity to win a trophy and score again at Wembley."

Meir Heath - playing on behalf of Port Vale - had defended strongly throughout the two seven-minute halves and, minutes before Callum clinched the winner, had a double effort blocked on the line.

But Mudeford - representing AFC Bournemouth - dominated to deny Meir Heath their third title of the season as Callum cut through the opposition defence to grab glory for his side.

"It doesn't get much better than that," added Mudeford teacher, Lee Goodlet. "This is the last game that they will be playing together at school so for them to play and win at Wembley is brilliant.

"The day has been a great experience - especially the tour of the stadium, we met a couple of players and commentators plus the win has made it a cracking occasion. It is a great achievement for the boys and of course for Callum."

Despite the heartbreak of missing out on a trophy at Wembley, Meir Heath teacher, Simon Mottram insists that his players will bounce back.

"Obviously the lads are very disappointed," he said. "I thought that we had a very strong first half but as with all levels of football - you have to take your chances. Credit must go to Bournemouth because they used the width well and deserved to win.

"The guys are a bit down but once they've spoken to their parents and they've had a chance to reflect, they'll realise they've had a fantastic weekend, especially the tour of Wembley which was great. They are still winners in our eyes."
