Brian and Matthew Burhouse are intent on keeping Huddersfield Town match programme sales firmly in the family after dishing out almost 200,000 copies between them.

The father and son team have racked up more than 35 years as programme sellers ensuring fans of the Coca-Cola League 1 club can read all about their beloved Terriers at home games.

And the next generation of the Burhouse dynasty is already lined up to maintain the proud tradition, with Matthew's sons Connor, seven, and four-year-old Callum both hoping to follow in dad's footsteps.

Computer technician Matthew has worked at Town's old Leeds Road and their current Galpharm Stadium during his 15 years as part of the 20-strong match-day sales team.

He said: "My dad got me into it as a teenager. It always stuck with me how much he seemed to enjoy doing it.

"And now my lads, who are regulars at home games, seem to have caught the bug from me.

"Even though they're a few years away from it yet they've both said they'd like to follow our example so we're delighted.

"It hadn't really struck me how many programmes we'd sold between us over the years, but with my lads hopefully coming on board there'll be plenty more to add to the tally in the future."

Matthew, 33, recently beat Brian, a retired postman who boasts more than 20 years working for Town, to the club's Programme Seller of the Month award.

The pair each sell on average around 200 copies per match.

Matthew, who attended his first Terriers game 25 years ago, added: "It gave me a few family bragging rights and it was a real honour to win it.

"But everyone on the team deserves recognition for their commitment and hard work in all weathers and conditions.

"I must have gone through quite a few pairs of gloves dealing with the elements in my time!

"At some of the night games in the middle of winter it's felt like I've been close to frostbite.

"You have to be a pretty hardy character but it's also a lot of fun and some of the banter with the supporters is great.

"I've been amazed how fans have sought me out over the years to buy their programme specifically from me because it's a pre-match ritual or superstition for them.

"It can be like a player putting on his left sock first.

"So you dare not miss a game because you don't want to upset the supporters by not being where they expect you to be.

"The programmes cost £3 this season. They were about 80p when I started selling them.

"And they were two and sixpence in old money (12.5p) when my dad started, or so he tells me!"
