Striker Freddy Eastwood has kick-started his Coventry City career with a landmark goal that helped put the Sky Blues on top of the Championship table ahead of Saturday's meeting with Bristol City at the Ricoh Stadium.
Wales international Eastwood, who has just been named in John Toshack's squad for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Russia, opened the scoring at Barnsley last week as Coventry beat the Tykes 2-1.
It was his first club goal for almost a year, the long barren spell following a great start at his previous club Wolverhampton Wanderers where he hit four goals in his first three games after a £1.5million move from Southend United.
But most of his subsequent Wolves appearances came from the substitutes' bench, and he was happy to make a new start down the M6 at Coventry. Quite a start it has been too, with Eastwood helping the Sky Blues to a 100 per cent opening to the new campaign.
"I'm delighted with the way things have gone so far," says the 24 year-old striker, who despite his lack of goals at Molineux last season hit the net four times in eight Wales appearances as he established himself on the international stage.
"Scoring goals for Wales helped keep up my confidence," adds Eastwood, "although I felt I played well for Wolves when I got the chance and helped to set up goals even if I wasn't putting the ball in the net myself.
"In the end it was a frustrating time for me at Molineux, but that's behind me now and I'm feeling good after my first few weeks with Coventry. I'm not up to total match fitness yet, but I'm feeling sharp and it was great to get my first goal last week."
Eastwood has formed what looks like becoming a potent partnership with Clinton Morrison, signed from Crystal Palace, but strikers such as Leon Best, Leon McKenzie and Michael Mifsud mean there is strong competition for places at the Ricoh Stadium.
Eastwood says: "I've got the shirt at the moment but I know that if I don't do it on the pitch I'll be sitting on the bench. So I need to stay sharp and focused, and that's what I'll be doing along with scoring as many goals as possible.
"If myself and another couple of the front players can come up with 15 to 20 goals each over the season then we should be challenging at the top end of the table - and after the way we've started I believe we're capable of doing that."
