A computer games expert and the boss of a park side are just two of the applicants for the manager's job at Port Vale.

The League 2 club are looking for a new man to plot a charge up the table following Lee Sinnott's departure from Vale Park.

Chairman Bill Bratt would prefer someone with Football League experience - but revealed they have received several other eye-catching applications.

One came from 'Craig' from Scotland who has guided lower-league teams to European success in the computer game Championship Manager.

But Vale would have to agree to certain conditions if Craig is to take the reins.

Bratt said: "The letter insisted that he would only come if we gave him the necessary funds to challenge for the Champions League, and that's once he has taken us into the Premier League.

"He admitted that he was 'not from the area and I didn't know anything about the club but said he was an ideal candidate'!

"He'd done some research, and was disappointed to learn that we are in League 2.

"But he also said that he had a connection with our shareholder Robbie Williams, having bought his first two albums!"

The Vale Chairman added: "We also had one from someone who has managed Saturday and Sunday League teams and said he loved being a manager and just needs a chance.

"We do look at every application and CV that we receive.

"We think on this occasion we might have to go for someone with a little more experience than these two, but we thank them for their interest!"
