Torquay United secured a trip to Old Trafford for the npower League 2 Play-Off final with a 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury Town in the semi-final second leg.

Having won 2-0 at home in the first leg the Gulls kept another clean sheet to frustrate the division's fourth placed team on their own patch and that was enough to give them victory over the two legs.

Stevenage knocked Accrington Stanley out of the npower League 2 Play-Offs after a late 1-0 win at the Crown Ground gave them a 3-0 aggregate victory.

Just as they did in the first leg, Stevenage looked set to match Torquay's achievements by following up a 2-0 home leg victory with a 0-0 draw away from home to progress to the final, however they want one better with a last minute winner to really kick-off the celebrations.

Any hopes John Coleman's side had went out of the window with just over 20 minutes to go. Two red cards in two minutes saw the home side reduced to nine men and left them with a mountain to climb.

Joe Jacobson was dismissed after 69 minutes for a professional foul before Sean McConville was sent off for violent conduct in the aftermath.

Chris Beardsley put the tie beyond any doubt in the last minute of normal time when he struck from deep inside the penalty area to win the game on the night.

Graham Westley's side, promoted as Conference champions last season, will now meet the Gulls on Saturday 28th May to decide who will be promoted to npower League 1.

Stevenage took the initiative in their npower League 2 Play-Off semi-final with a 2-0 victory over Accrington Stanley at The Lamex Stadium.

Stacy Long broke the deadlock midway through the first half to give the home side the lead and shortly before half-time they went two-up. Former Stanley midfielder Joel Byrom converted Darius Charles headed pass to ensure this tie went the same way as the other semi-final first leg with the home side winning 2-0.

It brought an end to a run of 13 games without defeat for Accrington and they will be looking to bounce back when the sides meet in the second leg at the Crown Ground on Friday.

Torquay United made the most of home advantage as they beat Shrewsbury Town 2-0 in the first leg of their npower League 2 Play-Off semi-final.

The Gulls took a 29th minute lead through Chris Zebroski and three minutes into time added on at the end of the first half they doubled their hold on the tie when Eunan O'Kane struck from outside the area.

Torquay ran out as 5-0 victors back in mid-March when the two sides last met at Plainmoor in the league and that victory kick started a run of 12 matches without defeat that took them into the Play-Offs. Although they didn't match that scoreline on this occasion, the two-goal advantage they will take with them to the Greenhous Meadow has set up an exciting second leg.

The match will be played next Friday, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
