Wigan Athletic welcome Queens Park Rangers to the DW Stadium on Friday evening for the first instalment of their two-legged Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Final.

These two, who were both relegated from the Premier League last term, ended this season separated by seven points with the Hoops finishing the higher, in fourth on 80.

That gap was created towards the end of the season as the Latics signed off the campaign with three defeats in their final four outings, including on the last day against Blackburn Rovers.

Harry Redknapp's men won 3-2 against Barnsley on the final day, meaning they come into the Play-Offs undefeated in three.

Head-to-Head

QPR have come out on top over the two meetings with Wigan this term, but only one goal has come between the sides. Rangers recorded a 1-0 victory at Loftus Road in March, which came after October's goalless draw between the pair at the DW.

The overall head-to-head is tight with QPR on four wins to Wigan's two, with the other six encounters ending level.

The Latics' last win in this fixture was during the 2011/12 Premier League season when they triumphed 2-0 with Franco Di Santo netting a brace.

In the Media

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp insists form has nothing to do with success in the Play-Offs.

He told getwestlondon.co.uk: "Palace had a poor time leading up to the Final - they were on the way down, but it made no difference on the day.

"It's all about who performs in three separate games and I wouldn't rule out anyone from the four that are in the shake-up. It's happened the least fancied has won in the past as well."

Wigan striker Martyn Waghorn, who missed a penalty in the Latics' last outing at the DW, told the Evening Post: "It's important to get off to a good start and I'm happy we're home first."

"If we can put a good performance in at home in front of our fans and put down a marker, it would put us in a great position for the second leg."
